Tips for Keeping Your Premium Cabinets Beautiful for Years to Come
Your new cabinets were crafted from high-grade plywood, with solid hardwood face frames and doors in either a natural or painted finish. They were built to last. But even the highest quality materials benefit from a little care and maintenance. Below are our top recommendations for keeping your cabinetry looking and functioning its best.
Daily Maintenance Is Simple
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. A microfiber cloth slightly moistened with water is all you need for most day-to-day cleaning.
Avoid harsh cleaners. Steer clear of anything with ammonia, bleach, or abrasive agents. These can dull painted finishes or dry out bare wood over time.
Dry thoroughly. Wood is naturally porous—even high-quality hardwood—so always follow up with a dry cloth to avoid moisture damage.
Protect the Finish
Use cabinet-friendly cleaners when needed. For deeper cleaning, a gentle soap-and-water solution works well. There are also wood-safe cleaners formulated for either painted or bare finishes.
Watch for grease build-up. In cooking zones, clean more regularly to prevent long-term film from forming on doors or trim.
Mind the Hardware

Tighten loose screws gently. Wood expands and contracts naturally. If hinges or pulls feel off-kilter, a careful adjustment may be all that’s needed.
Don’t overtighten. Especially on painted surfaces, overtightening can cause hairline cracks in the finish around hardware.
Avoid Direct Water Contact
Don’t let water pool near sink bases or dishwasher panels. Even plywood cabinets can be damaged by standing water or repeated exposure.
Wipe up spills immediately. This includes drips from dishwashing or condensation from appliances.
Protect Against Heat and Light
Shield cabinets from heat-generating appliances. A coffeemaker or toaster used daily under a cabinet can affect the finish over time.
Minimize prolonged sun exposure. Direct sunlight can fade painted and natural wood finishes alike. Use shades or window treatments to control UV exposure when needed.

Painted vs. Bare Wood: Know the Difference
Your care approach should vary slightly based on finish:
Painted cabinets: These have a hard, protective topcoat, but are more prone to visible chipping or scratching. Avoid dragging objects across surfaces or over-cleaning with strong chemicals.
Bare/natural hardwood: These cabinets age gracefully and develop a patina over time. Use oil- or wax-based polishes sparingly if you want to preserve their look, and avoid water-based cleaners.
Seasonal Shifts Are Normal
All wood breathes with changes in humidity.

Expect minor movement. Small shifts in doors or drawers during seasonal changes are normal and not cause for concern.
Use climate control. Keeping your home between 35–55% relative humidity helps protect all wood surfaces.
Touch-Ups & Long-Term Care
